Process

Each painting starts with me drawing, writing, stenciling, and gluing down letters or drawings on a canvas or panel. I love the feeling of hovering over the surface and especially enjoy the tactile connection and participating in the evolving creation. In some sense it is a relationship between me, and the surface being created.

The painting process is like drawing. The tools and media are just thicker, juicier, and seems to teeter on chaos.

I am searching for the unique mark which not only moves me but the painting – something expressive and meaningful – A vibrant color next to a desaturated one, a figure that surprisingly appears beneath a glaze, …

Once the painting makes its assertion of purpose the act of creating take on a different sensation beyond the building of history or layers. A synergistic energy between the painting, paint, tools, and my intuition ensues as I step out of the way.
